Furman Church Music Conference (cancelled)

The Church Music Conference 2023 including the Friday, Jan. 27, Evensong service is cancelled. Thursday’s Hartness Organ Recital on Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Daniel Chapel will still be performed.

Furman University presents guest clinicians Rosephanye and William Powell for the 2023 Furman University Church Music Conference. Rosephanye, one of America’s most celebrated composers of solo vocal and choral music, and William, a distinguished conductor, composer, and choral arranger and editor, serve on the faculty of Auburn University. They will bring their dynamic, exciting styles and wide-ranging experience to a wonderful two days of learning and music making, including lectures, reading sessions, and rehearsals with conference attendees and Furman’s outstanding choirs.

On Thursday evening of the conference, attendees will be treated to a concert of music for violin and organ by Kevin Tompkins, Assistant Principal Second Violinist in the Omaha Symphony and faculty member of the Omaha Conservatory of Music, and Furman Professor of Music and University Organist Charles Tompkins, performed in the Charles E. Daniel Memorial Chapel.

Choral Conducting Workshop

William Powell will be working with three conference attendees in his Thursday afternoon session on conducting. If you would like to conduct for Dr. Powell, please register on the Eventbrite site by January 10, to be considered as one of the three conductors.
