Each year in January, Furman University celebrates the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with a Community Breakfast where a noted speaker delivers a keynote address. During the same month, Furman pays tribute to and remembers Joseph Vaughn, the first African American to enroll at the university. More details will follow, but the dates are set. The MLK Community Breakfast will take place Friday, January 16, 2026, and Joseph Vaughn Day is set for Friday, January 30, 2026. Both events are open to the public. The breakfast will be a ticketed event.
