Nissim Black, an African American Hasidic Jewish rapper, will present a free concert Thursday, March 23, at 8 p.m. in McAlister Auditorium on the campus of Furman University. FOX Carolina caught up with Black who appeared as a guest in a conversation March 22 hosted by Furman’s Judith Williams, assistant professor of anthropology. Black discussed the intersection of faith, gender and race, in his faith journey from Islam to Christianity, to Judaism.
For Thursday’s concert, Black hopes people leave the event “inspired to do positive things.” The former gang member told FOX, “Just the way a story begins, doesn’t mean it has to end that way.” Doors open at 7 p.m.
