Journalist Jay King of Greenville Journal writes about a new book chronicling Richard Riley’s education legacy while he served as governor of South Carolina. “A People’s Movement: a playbook” was written by Robert Saffold and The Riley Institute at Furman University. It describes how the Education Improvement Act gained traction through a grassroots movement despite fierce opposition. Riley, a Furman alumnus who celebrated his 90th birthday in January, was on hand for the book launch at Trone Student Center. “I haven’t had time to read the book, but the people who have tell me it’s very good,” he quipped.
