Chinese spy balloon shot down by U.S. officials over Carolina Coast, officials react
Following the U.S. downing of a Chinese surveillance balloon off the coast of South Carolina, FOX Carolina spoke to Furman University’s Katherine Kaup, James B. Duke Professor of Asian Studies and Politics and International Affairs. She said the events of the past week will negatively impact an already strained relationship between the U.S. and China. “It will at least set us back several months,” she said. “I’m hoping that it won’t be a permanent setback, but it will certainly put a delay in improving the relationships that we so very much need.” She added that the recent move by the U.S. military to use additional bases in the Philippines and the potential for accidental conflict in Taiwan has her most disturbed.
