The Anglesey coach who had a key role in Morocco’s World Cup success

Furman University can claim yet another World Cup connection in addition to Walker Zimmerman ’15 and Furman Athletics Hall of Famers Ricardo Clark (2010) and Clint Dempsey (2006, 2010, 2014). Before Osian Roberts was named assistant manager for London’s Crystal Palace in 2021, he served as technical director (2019-2021) of the Morocco national team that made it to the semifinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Roberts, who hails from Anglesey, Wales, was named Southern Conference Player of the Year in 1986 and 1988 when he played for Furman Men’s Soccer.
