A report by Insider lays out the race for Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, a seat occupied by Furman University alumnus and benefactor David Trone ’77, a Democrat. His challenger, Republican Neil Parrott, is mounting a rematch for the seat. First elected in 2018, Trone serves on the House Appropriations and Veterans’ Affairs Committees and the Joint Economic Committee. Parrott, now serving his third term as a state delegate in Maryland’s General Assembly, previously worked as a traffic engineer for the Maryland State Highway Administration and was the deputy director of engineering for the City of Frederick.

Trone is a member of the Furman Board of Trustees. He is the co-founder and co-owner of Total Wine & More, which as of 2018 was the largest private wine retailer in the U.S. with annual revenues of $3.1 billion. Before receiving an MBA from The Wharton School of Business at The University of Pennsylvania, he studied business, English, and political science at Furman.
