Kaaren Younts Miller, a 2006 Furman University piano performance alumna, is profiled by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department where she was recently promoted to training sergeant.

Working several different jobs after earning two degrees in music, it took only a ride-along in a patrol car before Miller realized how her music and other strengths dovetailed with those required in law enforcement. Blending interpersonal communication, athletic, technical, and listening skills, she applied these sensibilities in her role as a patrol deputy, then she worked her way up to the major crimes unit as an investigator before serving in her current position.

The Lexington County Ledger picked up the story published on the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department website. In it, Miller said, “One of the aspects I value most about working with the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department is the people who I work with and have the pleasure to serve with. The folks that I work with here have the highest level of integrity, of professionalism, of training and experience and commitment to what they do.”
