Hundreds of Furman students headed to Timmons Arena on the evening of Aug. 30 to pack more than 30,000 meals for Rise Against Hunger, an international hunger relief organization. The Heller Service Corps joined the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Furman University Athletics to sponsor the event. Students packed bags containing a month’s supply of food for a family of four and then loaded the bags up for delivery. In addition, FCA raised $3,900 during a 24-hour fundraiser.

This is the second year that Furman has hosted a Rise Against Hunger event, said Nancy Cooper, Heller Service Corps coordinator.

“Seeing so many hands working together was truly inspiring,” said Cooper. “It was another amazing event, and we are already looking forward to it next year.”
