Danny Tang named chief information officer at Furman

Danny Tang has been named chief information officer and associate vice president for technology at Furman. Tang will be a member of the Senior Administrative Team and will report to Susan Maddux, vice president for Finance and Administration. He will begin his role at Furman on August 22.

“The pandemic reminded us how integral IT is to our success as a university,” Maddux said. “Data security; faculty, staff and student support; and the ability to quickly adapt to change, all while providing exceptional service, are among the many challenges facing our technology and information professionals. With extensive experience in higher education IT, Danny has the background to help Furman succeed now and in the future.”

Since 2021, Tang has been the chief information officer at Missouri University of Science and Technology. He began his career at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, where he worked for more than a decade in positions of increasing responsibility. He then worked at the University of Iowa, first as chief technology officer in the College of Engineering, then as senior director of a department within the university’s central IT organization.

“I am both honored and humbled to be joining Furman University and thank President Davis, Vice President Maddux and the rest of the Furman family for providing me with this opportunity to serve this premier institution,” Tang said. “I look forward to learning from Furman’s leadership, students, faculty and staff and working alongside them to help them succeed in reaching their goals and to advance the mission of the institution.”

Tang has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is completing a master’s degree in analytics from Georgia Tech.
