Furman University is among the organizers of the exhibition, “City of Women,” on display March 4-April 27 at GCCA Community Gallery. It showcases a number of different artists from the community as well as the social need to address the contributions of women in the area, including Furman alumna Sarah Reese ’71 H’14. One of the first Black women to attend the university, Reese would later become a world-famous opera singer, making her New York debut in 1981 and performing with some of the world’s most famous orchestras and conductors.
