TOWN Magazine highlights the efforts of three individuals who are making strides in keeping Greenville sustainable especially in the face of unprecedented growth. Among them is Furman University’s Laura Bain ’02, associate director of sustainability assessment at The Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities.

Bain, who partners with the city to shape SustainableGVL, said, “I think the most important thing I can do to contribute is help people understand where they fit in the conversation. It’s important we think about what we’re leaving our kids. I have a 5-year-old daughter, and it helps me see the importance of what I’m leaving her – what we can fix now, and what she’ll need to fix later. That’s how I can contribute.”

Bain holds a bachelor’s in biology from Furman and a master’s in environmental management from Duke University.
