Furman University’s Scott Henderson penned a tribute to Judy Bainbridge after her 525th and final column in The Greenville News, which published 22 years of twice-monthly articles about Greenville and the Upstate.

Retired professor emerita of English at Furman and an administrator who built a nationally recognized scholarship program at the university, Bainbridge wrote about topics and people ranging from Shoeless Joe Jackson to church scandal to pollution in the Reedy River. “We owe an enormous thank you to Judy Bainbridge for the more than two decades she informed readers about the people, events and organizations that helped to forge modern Greenville,” wrote Henderson, the William R. Kenan Jr. Professor of Education. “She is a local treasure whose scholarship and writing have given us a lasting legacy.”
