On the anniversary of the Jan. 6 storming of the U.S. Capitol, FOX Carolina reporter Jarvis Robertson turned to Brent Nelsen for comment. Nelsen, a Furman University professor of politics and international affairs, said the insurrection “symbolizes the deep, deep divide that we’re experiencing now in this country.” Pointing out other fractured moments in our nation’s history such as the Civil War, the civil rights era and Vietnam, Nelsen said the incident on Jan. 6 will impact how he teaches comparative politics. “I pay much more attention to democracy, how democracies rise and how democracies fall.”
