Florida hires Billy Napier as head football coach

The University of Florida football team has a Furman University Paladin at the helm. On Sunday, November 28, the University of Florida announced that Billy Napier, former starting quarterback for Furman and 2002 health and exercise science graduate, will arrive in Gainsville, Florida, as head coach of the Gators on Sunday, Dec. 5, following his last time on the field in the same role for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday.

Noted for his 39-12 record as head football coach for University of Louisiana Lafayette, and for his recruiting prowess, Napier previously held positions at Alabama, Clemson, Arizona State, Colorado State, South Carolina State and a very short stint at Florida State.

The Paladins won two conference championships during Napier’s time at Furman, where he was selected to two All-Southern Conference teams at quarterback.
