City of Greenville launches new economic and entrepreneurship development initiative

The City of Greenville’s launch of its national economic development initiative on Sept. 2 garnered a flurry of attention from the media. The initiative, “From Here You Can Change the World,” aims to encourage entrepreneurs and innovators to keep, start and grow their businesses in Greenville. It will educate company founders about available tools, including funding resources, incubators and accelerator programs, coaching and mentorship opportunities, networking events, business start-up and growth resources, economic development organizations and dozens of co-working spaces.

Furman University President Elizabeth Davis was among the speakers during the kickoff, which drew more than 250 attendees in downtown Greenville. Other speakers included Mayor Knox White, City Manager John McDonough, Venture Pitch Carolina President Alex Estevez, Clemson University Director of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing Mark Johnson, Greenville Chamber of Commerce President Carlos Phillips and Merle Johnson, the City of Greenville’s director of economic development.
