Furman University has once again been listed in The Princeton Review’s “The Best 387 Colleges” in the country.

Unlike in years past, the publication, which bases its rankings on student and school administrator responses to surveys, did not include rankings for separate categories because students at many schools were attending class remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were unavailable to be surveyed.

Earlier this year, Furman ranked No. 15 in Princeton Review’s list of private schools for making an impact in its “Best Value Colleges” guide, which includes the country’s top 200 universities with the best return on investment.

Furman students who were surveyed previously for “The Best 387 Colleges” guide said the university helps students become the best versions of themselves, noting resources ranging from “good study abroad” options and “experiential learning” to “many opportunities for research and internships.” One student wrote that the faculty “love teaching and instilling a passion for growth, inquiry and engagement.”

Students also noted the university’s efforts to “invite a greater diversity of individuals, especially in regard to race,” and that students have fairly diverse interests. They also said that while students “are very motivated and driven to perform well academically,” there’s a lack of competition in favor of pushing “each other to be the best people possible.”

In last year’s publication, Furman ranked No. 2 for “Most Politically Active Students,” No. 12 for “Most Accessible Professors,” No. 16 in the category of “Most Active Student Government,” No. 10 for “Best Classroom Experience” and No. 12 for “Best College Theater.”

The schools listed in the 2022 edition of “The Best 387 Colleges” guide are among about 14 percent of all four-year universities in the country.
