‘The secret’s out’: Former Clemson, Furman football players share why they’ve made the Upstate home
Rick Spruill of Greenville Journal reaches out to former Clemson and Furman University football players to understand lessons learned from the game and why they call the Upstate home. On the Furman side, Spruill speaks to Paul Siffri, tight end (1988-1991), Beach Foster, fullback/strong safety (1974-1977), and Chad O’Rear, running back (1988-1989), who came back to Greenville in 2018 after living in Athens, Georgia, 26 years. “The difference now is that when I was growing up, it was unusual to find someone who was not from here. Now, it’s rare to find someone who is from here. And yet, the area has grown well and kept its identity,” O’Rear said.
