Stacy Capers ’18 will travel to Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, Aug. 15, to record a music video with singer-songwriter and producer Charlie Puth and the other three winners of a music contest.

Capers’ entry was among more than 1,500 submissions globally, according to LG Electronics. Capers and the three other winners were announced on July 27.

She credits Furman music professors Bruce Schoonmaker, Hugh Floyd, Dan Koppleman, Laura Kennedy, Mark Kilstofte and Jay Bocook ’75 for helping her to develop as an artist. Capers, from Charleston, South Carolina, was a music major at Furman, where she was involved in Furman Singers, FUtones, the Twelve Peers and Pauper Players.

The competition, hosted by LG Electronics Inc., featured Puth and called for vocalists, instrumentalists and songwriters to post their entry on Instagram, TikTok or YouTube. In addition to the trip to LA and the video opportunity, winners also received LG’s latest TV.
