Trude Heller dies at 98

The Post and Courier wrote about Trude Heller, who died May 11 at age 98. Along with her late husband Max, the Hellers are the namesake of Furman’s Heller Service Corps. The Post and Courier quoted former governor Dick Riley, for whom The Riley Institute at Furman is named, who credited Trude with being a co-leader with Max. Trude was an active speaker about the Holocaust, which she survived as a young girl in Austria, and often met with Furman students. Getting to know her helped students “develop a sense of connection … and a real desire to do great work to honor what the Hellers had done for our community,” Furman President Elizabeth Davis said.
