How ‘Slingshot’ will find March upsets, Cinderellas and underdogs

How do you take down a giant? With a slingshot, of course. Peter Keating and his colleague Jordan Brenner have analyzed NCAA Tournament upsets for more than a decade with their ESPN.com series Giant Killers. Now they are looking to more surgically predict tourney upsets with Slingshot, a revamped statistical model created with the help of the Furman University Department of Mathematics, namely, Liz Bouzarth, John Harris and Kevin Hutson. Slingshot, an homage to the biblical story about David and Goliath, aims to get a better read on springtime upsets, Cinderellas and underdogs. Read more in The Athletic.
