No joke: Using humor in class is harder when learning is remote

Educators everywhere have found out the hard way that incorporating humor in the online classroom is a tough nut to crack. Scott Henderson, an education professor at Furman University, takes a look at humor in the virtual college world in an article he wrote for The Conversation. Drawing on experiences of Furman faculty, alumni educators and others, he unpacks five reasons why jokes tend to fall flat amid a sea of remote, masked students.
