Tomorrow is Joseph Vaughn Day
Each year, Furman recognizes Joseph Vaughn ’68, the university’s first Black undergraduate student, on Jan. 29, the date he enrolled here in 1965. This year the university was planning to have a public celebration on that date with the unveiling of a statue in his honor. While this public celebration has been postponed, we will remember Joseph Vaughn and his enduring spirit through the stories of other Black alumni. Check your email and visit the news page tomorrow morning for messages and stories that celebrate Joe Vaughn and the impact he has had on helping us to make the university a more diverse, equitable and inclusive community.
