Giving Tuesday raised a record-breaking $353,552

The Furman community came together on December 1 to celebrate the university’s eighth annual Giving Tuesday event. In total, 842 alumni, students, parents and friends gave a record-breaking $353,552 to more than a dozen funds that impact students across the institution.

During the 24-hour online giving event, donors made gifts of varying sizes, which all add up to transform the student experience at Furman. Support from the event will help fund scholarships, research, study away experiences, athletics and various other programs at the university.

“I’m blown away by the generosity of this community,” said Director of Annual Giving Gloria Goosby. “To have a record breaking campaign in a year of so much uncertainty is a testament to the commitment alumni, friends, parents and students have to Furman.”

The Furman Singers earned a $2,000 bonus for having the highest number of donors throughout the event. The group ended with 80 gifts. It was followed by the Joseph Vaughn Plaza and Class of 2021 Joseph Vaughn Scholarship funds, which received 64 and 54 gifts, respectively.

“Furman is the source of an excellent education, extraordinary memories and lifelong friendship,” said Mary Lindsey Lewis ’74. “I want the same for others!”
