New studies by dream researchers promise to move the field from “fringe” to mainstream, says Furman University’s Erin Wamsley, a professor of psychology and neuroscience. Her work is mentioned in an article appearing in The Scientist. She describes her ongoing activities in the Furman Sleep Lab where participants incorporate new learning experiences into their dreams, and where Wamsley is now studying what determines that phenomenon. More than an outlier topic, Wamsley says dream research is simply “another way to understand what the mind and brain are doing during sleep.”
