After saving Biden, Black voters in SC will help shape general election

Racial unrest stemming from the deaths of George Floyd and other Black people at the hands of police is a factor in this year’s election, says Furman University’s Danielle Vinson, a professor of politics and international affairs. She told Kirk Brown of the Independent Mail that for the Black electorate, the issue of police violence is “visceral for them, not abstract in any way.”

“I do think the Black Lives Matter protests over the summer have raised awareness of issues and motivated younger voters to get active, to at least pay attention to politics in ways that I haven’t seen another issue do in a long time,” Vinson added.
