Preventing college parties? Shame and blame don’t work

In an NPR interview with Elissa Nadworny, Furman University’s Connie Carson, vice president for student life, said providing alternatives for “appropriate gathering” will go a long way toward getting students to comply with COVID-19 campus safety measures. To that end, she relies on the creativity of student organizations, which, she says, are “the lifeblood of any campus.” She noted the use of well-placed hula hoops to encourage proper distancing during an outdoor movie event, and mentioned other ideas to help keep students safely occupied on campus.
