The 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote was celebrated Aug. 18 in Columbia, South Carolina. Among the more than 80 women lining the steps of the Statehouse for the commemoration was Furman President Elizabeth Davis, the first female to lead the university. She was joined by Benedict College President Roslyn Artis and several legislators who are firsts for their district. South Carolina Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette hosted the bipartisan gathering, which was covered in The Post and Courier and ABC News.
