Ending systemic racism

On the fifth anniversary of the Mother Emanuel murders by a white supremacist, recent deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery remind us that we still need to have difficult conversations about ending systemic racism, former Governor and Secretary of Education Dick Riley and Don Gordon, director of The Riley Institute at Furman write in a June 17 op-ed.

“In South Carolina racism is both endemic and systemic, its roots linked in inequities in law enforcement and the justice system, health and health care, economic opportunity and, most importantly, public education,” they write.
