Furman University Communications has earned two CASE Circle of Excellence Awards in recognition of the office’s work to support the university’s initiatives – a gold for the 2019 President’s Report and a bronze for a Furman magazine profile of Sam Wyche ’66.

“These national awards reflect the effort and expertise of Furman’s communications team, who are dedicated to promoting the excellence of the university’s students, faculty and staff,” said Tom Evelyn, vice president for University Communications. “Creating the 2019 President’s Report was a first for this team, and we appreciate the help of our campus partners, who shared their progress with us and offered invaluable feedback throughout the course of the project.”

In the writing category, “A Series of Miracles” details Wyche’s journey from Furman football player to professional star, heart transplant recipient and ultimately to a champion of organ donation. The profile was published in the fall 2019 issue of Furman magazine before he passed away in January.

In the publications category, the 2019 President’s Report, “Reflecting on Our Calling,” provides an in-depth look into the university’s admissions, athletics, diversity and inclusion efforts, community impact, development, and its signature approach to education, The Furman Advantage.

The awards drew 2,752 entries from 587 member institutions representing 28 countries. Entries were for 100 categories relating to alumni, fundraising, special events, advancement, service, publications and websites. CASE selected 26 grand gold, 130 gold, 146 silver and 139 bronze. Furman belongs to CASE District III.
