Furman University Vice President for Finance and Administration Susan A. Maddux has been appointed president of the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers. Her tenure began June 1.

SACUBO is one of four regional associations that constitute the Washington D.C.-based National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and exists to contribute to higher education financial and administrative services by providing relevant professional development, thought leadership and issue advocacy.

In a message to SACUBO members and partners, Maddux wrote, “The role of the business officer has never been more important. SACUBO is here to support you as you navigate the uncharted waters that lie ahead. We will continue to work closely with NACUBO to support our advocacy efforts in Washington D.C. and ensure our members’ voices are heard on Capitol Hill.”

Furman’s chief financial and administrative officer, Maddux joined the university in November 2018, having served in the same role at Presbyterian College and, previously, at Converse College.

Maddux oversees all financial planning and execution, accounting operations, debt management and the endowment, as well as the departments of Budget and Resource Management, Facilities and Campus Services, and Human Resources.

Prior to her 26-year career in higher education, Maddux worked as a certified public accountant at Ernst & Young in Spartanburg, South Carolina. She is a graduate of Converse College and holds a master’s in professional accountancy from Clemson University.
