Risk still exists as some stores reopen

Last week, Gov. McMaster announced a plan to reopen some retail businesses and beaches in South Carolina. But amid apparent pushback, the governor extended state-of-emergency conditions for an additional 15 days. Before this newest order, WSPA 7News spoke to public health experts at Bon Secours St. Francis Health System and Furman University’s Institute for the Advancement of Community Health (IACH). Furman alumna Melissa Fair ’10, director of community action for IACH, said lifting restrictions now would be too early and noted that a steady, two-week decline each day in new COVID-19 cases needs to be seen before considering relaxing stay-at-home orders.
