Academic achievement gap slowly closing, but inequities persist

In a report appearing in The Greenville News about desegregation, Furman University Education Professor Paul Thomas takes issue with what the Nation’s Report Card terms the “academic achievement gap” between test scores of white and minority students. Instead, he says the differences in reading and math scores have more to do with resources. “It’s an equity gap,” he says.
