Replanting mall’s natural charm

Angelia Davis of The Greenville News reports on the multi-year tree replanting project happening at Furman University. The latest phase has removed 40 of the nearly 70-year-old oaks lining Furman Mall from the PAC to Daniel Chapel.

In their place, new trees standing about 35 feet tall will be planted, each topping out at around 60 to 80 feet at maturity and spreading 40 to 50 feet. The new species of trees are expected to grow two feet per year and will live 250 to 400 years.
