Shaniece Criss was not only reelected to her post on the Travelers Rest City Council in November, but she was also voted into the Greenville County Schools Hall of Fame. The Furman University assistant professor of health sciences has a number of claims to fame while growing up in Greenville, South Carolina, including a youth governorship during her time at Southside High School and the Fine Arts Center.

Her more recent credentials include a bachelor’s from Oglethorpe University, master’s degrees from Emory and Harvard Kennedy School of Government, a doctorate from Harvard’s T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and service in the Peace Corps. Greenville County Schools posted a three-minute video of her accomplishments. In it, she talks about community engaged research at Furman and servant leadership as a member of City Council. “What I love to do is listen to what people need and really advocate for them,” she said.
