Pianist Mac McClure presents Spanish music concert Oct. 8

Mac McClure, associate professor of piano at National University in Bogotá, Colombia, will present a concert of Spanish music Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall.

The concert, presented by the Furman Department of Music, is free and open to the public.

For the program, McClure will perform works by Antonio Soler, Frederic Mompou, Xavier Montsalvatge, Isaac Albéniz, Moisès Bertran and Enrique Granados.

McClure is internationally recognized for his rich knowledge of Spanish music. He has recorded 40 compact discs of Catalan and Spanish repertory, including the world premiere recording of the songs by Albéniz, the first recording for the complete version of the Granados quintet and the complete songs and three discs of piano music by Frederic Mompou.

McClure studied with Carlota Garriga at the Marshall Academy in Barcelona, and, for nine years, with Alicia de Larrocha. He has worked with composers such as Joaquin Nin-Cumell, Carlos Surinach and Moisès Bertran, among others.

McClure undertook an in-depth analysis of the French vocal repertoire with Dalton Baldwin and has performed virtually all the vocal works of Claude Debussy, Francis Poulenc and Gabriel Fauré. He has edited and published numerous scores for the publishing firm Boileau Music in Barcelona.
