“If you think of artists, they’re really edgy, they have piercings and tattoos and I’m rolling in with Lilly Pulitzer and I just didn’t think that I fit in. What’s crazy is that what makes you successful as an artist is standing out, but I didn’t realize that at 18.” Those are the words of Charlotte-based illustrator Evelyn Henson, a 2013 Furman University graduate whose work appears in over 100 boutiques across the country. The art history and communication studies graduate also has licensing deals with the likes of Pottery Barn, Pier 1 and Hallmark. Now becoming famous for her whimsical murals in the Queen City, Henson’s artistry was featured in SouthPark Magazine.
