Music by the Lake Summer Concert Series resumes July 11

As Director of Bands Leslie W. Hicken enters retirement at Furman University, he will continue to lead the Music by the Lake Summer Concert Series, which begins Thursday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. at the amphitheater on campus.

“Marches from Around the World” featuring the Lakeside Concert Band, opens the 10-concert series, a Greenville tradition since 1968.

The Lakeside Concert Band and other ensembles and artists celebrate the Sounds of Summer Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. through Aug. 1, with the exception of July 4.

Relax on the grounds of the spacious amphitheater by the Furman lake and enjoy a cross-section of Big Band, jazz, bluegrass, contemporary, marches and orchestral favorites. Thanks to generous local sponsors, all concerts are free and open to the public.

Each Thursday during the series, a concert picnic basket filled with treats will be given away to a lucky concertgoer.

The concerts are made possible by Furman University and are sponsored by the Bank of Travelers Rest, George Coleman Ford, The Greenville News, Publix Supermarkets, Villas at The Woodlands at Furman, Prisma Health and Pecknel Music.
