Furman University to honor first black student

Furman University has voted unanimously to erect a statue in honor of Joseph Vaughn, the university’s first African American student, and review its mission and vision with an eye toward inclusivity. COLORLINES reported on the statement issued from the Furman Board of Trustees, which approved recommendations made by its Special Committee on Slavery and Justice.
