SC bill would allow Dreamers in-state tuition, licensure

Ariel Gilreath of  Greenville Journal pens an article about recipients of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), also known as ‘Dreamers.’ Among the four young women she interviewed, one has been accepted to attend Furman University in the fall–Cynthia Oliver. A bill in the House legislature would allow South Carolina to offer in-state tuition and scholarships to Dreamers and also enable them to receive occupational licenses for careers in dozens of fields such as law, teaching and medicine. Oliver, who aspires to be a doctor, has found a way to attend college in South Carolina, but would have to leave the state to practice medicine under the current law.
