The Greenville Journal paid tribute to the late Ralph S. Hendricks, Simpsonville mayor (1975-1987) and trustee emeritus at Furman University. Reporter Cindy Landrum spoke with Athletics Director Mike Buddie, Furman Director of Donor Relations Allison Foy and Dick Riley of the Riley Institute at Furman and former South Carolina Governor. “He was a builder of good things in his community, and he was a builder of opportunity,” said Riley. Through the Ralph and Virginia Hendricks Foundation, hundreds of high school graduates from the Golden Strip were able to further their education with scholarships to Furman University and other Upstate colleges and universities.

Hendricks died on Feb. 17 at the age of 101.
