Study sheds light on poverty in Upstate Hispanic community

A two-year study of Hispanics in Greenville will help policymakers understand the needs of the community, which makes up 9 percent of the county’s population. The study was conducted by Furman Earth and Environmental Sciences Professor Courtney Quinn and Sustainability Science Professor Matthew Cohen in conjunction with the Hispanic Alliance.

Among other findings, the report shows that 20 percent of Hispanic households live below the federal poverty line, and may have a tougher time securing higher education and higher paying jobs.
