Athletes use discipline, competitive spirit to their advantage

Does success in competitive sports translate to success in the business world? Traits like determination, discipline, competitive spirit and adaptability don’t go by the wayside when athletes enter new careers, says Sara Pearce in a piece she wrote for Upstate Business Journal. In it, she describes how three sports figures parlayed their drive to compete to the world of commercial real estate. One of them is Chris Butler, a 2010 Furman business and accounting and economics graduate. Winner of three Collegiate National Cycling Championships while at Furman, the Hollingsworth Scholar went on to ride professionally at the highest levels until 2017. He now applies his winning spirit at KDS Commercial Properties, LLC, where he works as an associate broker.
