Achieving the American Dream

Does the neighborhood you grow up in determine how far you move up the economic ladder? National Public Radio reports on a new online data tool that finds a strong correlation between where people are raised and their chances of achieving the American dream. Among those trying to understand and overcome the barriers that prevent people from achieving economic success is Sedgefield Middle School in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Eric Tornfelt, the school’s assistant principal and a 2003 Furman graduate, is interviewed as part of the story.
