Furman community invited to hear Task Force on Slavery and Justice presentation

The entire Furman community is invited to hear a brief presentation from the Task Force on Slavery and Justice from 4-5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, in the Watkins Room of the Trone Student Center.

In July, the Task Force on Slavery and Justice published its report including a history on Furman’s ties to slavery and recommendations for acknowledging this history, and a key factor in learning and growing from this history is campuswide discussion. Attendees will hear a brief presentation on the task force’s process, receive a copy of the printed report, and have the opportunity to ask questions for the majority of the hour-long session.

Answering questions will be Provost George Shields, task force co-chairs Brandon Inabinet and Teresa Cosby, project historian Stephen O’Neill and other task force members including staff, students and alumni. Feedback from the Furman community and alumni will be shared with the Board of Trustees, which is reviewing the report and considering its recommendations.
