Today is Dins Day!
Furman University will show its colors and kick off a 24-hour celebration when the school holds its fourth annual Dins Day Tuesday, April 24.
Started in 2015, Dins Day encourages the Furman community to show its support by wearing purple, giving to the university and gathering with Furman students, alumni, parents and friends.
In addition to activities on campus for the students, who are celebrating the last day of classes, the Furman family and friends are invited to M. Judson on Main Street in downtown Greenville for a special lunch time celebration. The event will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature First Gentleman Charles Davis, who will be on hand to sign the university’s new cookbook, “In the Kitchen at White Oaks.”
Paladin head coaches Clay Hendrix (football) and Bob Richey (men’s basketball) will also be in attendance for the M. Judson festivities. Victor the Paladin, along with Stomper the Swamp Rabbit and the Reedy Rip’It, will be there as well.
Following the day-time activities, people are invited to see the new “Furman on Deck” at Fluor Field. The happy hour and ribbon cutting for the redesigned picnic area beyond the right-field foul line will begin at 5:30 p.m. Following the ribbon cutting, the Paladin baseball team will play South Carolina at 7 p.m.
In recognition of Dins Day, more than 25 boutiques, restaurants and stores in downtown Greenville will show their support by offering special discounts to students and alums. The stores along Main Street are offering a variety of promotions, and all participating businesses will have purple balloons on display outside their store front.
“Dins Day is not only celebrated in Greenville, but with our alums across the globe,” said Rebecca Bilott, associate director of development communications. “It is a day to celebrate what it means to be a Paladin and to recognize students and alumni for their continued support of Furman.”
