One hundred bikes arrived on campus Oct. 10 as part of a new “dockless” bike-share program through a partnership with Furman’s Student Government Association, the David E. Shi Center for Sustainability, and Spin, a San Francisco-based startup, reports the Greenville Journal. The launch of the six-month pilot program has already won sweeping appeal across campus. In its first 20 days, the program saw 656 unique riders and 4,500 rides, and more rides at Furman in the first week than did Seattle, Spin’s inaugural launch site. Said Wes Dripps, executive director for the Shi Center, “We have not had a widespread bike-sharing program on campus. This fills a gap on campus. It meets the students where they want to be.”
