What’s the ideal mix of online and face-to-face classes?
In a new study by Furman Education professor Temi Bidjerano and University of Albany associate provost for online learning Peter Shea, the researchers look at 30 New York community colleges to determine how many online courses a student can take before the risks outweigh the benefits. Measuring outcomes for about 45,000 students, they found the ratio that yielded the best results for full-time students is two online courses to three on-campus courses. Learn more about the study, which will be published in an upcoming issue of International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, in an article appearing in The Chronicle of Higher Education.
