‘In necessity all things are common’: Christian ethics and DACA

|

“Few Christians question the responsibility of governments to guard their borders against criminals and terrorists,” writes Furman Religion professor David Fink in The Greenville News. In an opinion piece he pens about the decision to end the Delayed Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Fink argues, “But in cases of genuinely desperate need, the weight of the Christian moral tradition is clear …  these refugees have a right to seek safety wherever they can find it—even if that means breaking our immigration laws. God’s law trumps Trump’s law, and American Christians who seek to follow Christ’s command to “welcome the stranger” may well find in the coming days that they have to decide for themselves which they will obey.”
