Billings named Greenville County Schools Teacher of the Year
Suzanne (Schwerin) Billings, a fourth-grade teacher at Plain Elementary School and 1995 Furman University graduate, has been named Greenville County Schools Teacher of the Year, Superintendent Burke Royster announced Wednesday. The award was reported in The Greenville News. According to a Greenville County Schools news release, Billings’ teaching practices are rooted in creating a positive, inclusive classroom community. “I ensure each student views him or herself as a speaker, listener, teacher, and supporter,” said the 19-year educator. “My reward in teaching is observing students who imagine, create, and inspire for themselves, not just for a teacher or parent,” she added. Billings holds a bachelor’s degree in Special Education for Students with Learning Disabilities and/or Emotional Handicaps from Furman and a master’s degree in Elementary School Guidance Counseling from Clemson University.
